Our Books of Remembrance service brings family and friends, wherever they live in the world, together enabling them to leave a remembrance message and/or light a candle for a loved one. If you have recently lost a loved one - or wish to leave a message for family, friends or neighbours who have recently lost a loved one - you may make your entry into their own Private Book Of Remembrance. These Private Books of Remembrance have been created by the loved one's family.
To check whether a Private Book of Remembrance has been opened you can either click on the Books of Remembrance link in the left hand panel above and browse the listing of Activated Books or use our Search Website facility which will return both Activated and Inactive Books. If you enter only the surname when completing the search fields this will enhance your search results.
When a Book of Remembrance is returned its status is indicated by a small book icon - a red cross indicates that the Book is Inactive and you will be unable to make any entries until the Book Owner, usually the family member responsible for the funeral arrangements, has activated the Book.
If there is no Private Book of Remembrance, normally because the loved one you wish to honour died some time ago or their Private Book of Remembrance has been closed, you may make your entry in the Public Book of Remembrance by clicking on the Light A Candle link.

Cyril Johnson
Cyril (MR J to all the students at NEC) was an outstanding teacher, always inspiring and full of humour. He could get on any horse and improve it within 10 minutes. He would say 'mind over matter' and 'a horse lover loves ALL horses' and those quotes have stayed with me over the years, never to be forgotton. We were in awe when he performed amazing passage and piaffe on Don Juan, his Spanish dressage horse. He had us all jumping with great confidence, usually over 4ft + fences, without fear or nerves. He had a great sense of humour and gave everyone nicknames and was always great fun and company. He had that gift with horses that is so rare to see. I had no idea he had died until seeing a note in Horse and Hound today. I was surprised not to receive a Christmas card from him. Sadly, now I know why. He will never be forgotton. He was certainly the best instructor I ever had and an inspiring influence. I am extremely sad to hear of his passing. He will always be remembered. RIP

Julie Carter
5th December 2008
Well Julie, it's a year today since you left us, at times it seems like only yesterday, at other times it's an age ago. So much has happened in the twlve months that have elapsed, some things that would give you pleasure, [the enjoyment that Sam and Cerys experienced on their holiday in Zante.] The development in their personalities, [the gentleness that Sam displays, and the slightly more feisty attitude of Cerys.] qualities that they have both inherited from you, plus the the loving caring nature that you had in abundance, [ in your beautiful children, you will live on.] Some things have occurred that would cause you disappointment, but this site is not the place to discuss them. As a family Julie, we shared the highs and lows of your life, there were tears of joy at your birth, tears of anger and disappointment, at each of the four failed I.V.F. attempts, more tears of joy at the natural births of Sam and Cerys, and finally tears of grief at your passing. We could not have asked for a better daughter or sister, you were always on hand if we were in need , like any family we had our moments, but that's all they were, moments in a lifetime. Our regret is that we did not say I love you as often as we should, but we know that you were aware of our love for you, as we were aware of the love you had for us. I will close now Julie, by saying what we say every night, "Goonight and God Bless", all our love forever, until we meet again . "Over the Rainbow" All our love Mum, Dad, Alan, Nicki, Sam, and Cerys. xxx

My Gangan God has taken you away from us and taken you to rest, it's not for us to understand he only takes the best. A face from your household has gone a voice we loved is stilled A chair is vacant in your home which never can be filled. You always watched for us Anxious if we were late In Winter from the window, in Summer by the gate. Your thoughts were always for us not once did you forget, and so we know from heaven you'll be watching for us yet. Rest in Peace Gangan Everything and everyone will be fine. Love you forever Jane xx xx xx
